Even after a few weeks it still feels weird to say that I’m actually married.

Our special day was the 16th of July, and after a rollercoaster 7 years I can’t tell you how good it feels to finally be in this position — ready to start this new & exciting phase. Geets and I first met about 10 years ago while working for a supermarket called Sainsbury’s, and after building up a really strong friendship over many (many) glasses of alcohol, here we are.

Enough of the soppy stuff though, right?

Being a travel-addict I was really pumped about our honeymoon, so here’s what we have lined up!

One night stay at Yotel, Gatwick

I wanted our honeymoon to get off to a chilled and relaxing start, so for the sake of convenience we’re staying at the Yotel in Gatwick airport. I’m looking forward to this part of the trip because (a) it saves us the rushed commute on the day we fly out, and (b) because the Yotel rooms are based inside the airport terminal itself, we’ll get an easy & convenient start to the holiday.

The Yotel cabins are meant to be quite modern and “techy”, so being a geek myself I’m looking forward to seeing how it all works! There’s a retractable bed that converts into a sofa bed with a touch of a button (cool!), free WiFi (always a bonus) and an en-suite bathroom. I think even the check-in process is done via a tablet which is quite interesting.

One week of luxury in Agadir, Morocco

Morocco isn’t what I’d call an obvious honeymoon destination — especially when you’ve got amazing places like Thailand, Bali, Maldives and Bora Bora to choose from — but after visiting Agadir with a friend last year I’m confident that it was a good choice.

Agadir far more affordable than those other long-haul destinations, it’s comfortably hot, resorts are luxurious and the food is also pretty good. That’s without mentioning the rich culture of both the Islamic and native Berber people.

The Twin Room at the Riu Tikida Dunas resort in Agadir, Morocco

When I visited last year I stayed at the Riu Tikida Dunas — the hotel chain’s newly refurbished 4 star resort — so this time I opted for Riu’s 5 star Palace Tikida for an added dose of luxury and style. It is our honeymoon after all!

Between the hammam massages, amazing mint teas, all-inclusive food & drink, plus the beach right in front of our resort, I think it’s going to be a perfect way to wind-down and come back recharged.

I’ll probably throw in some jet skiing and quad biking along the way too 😜

Wrapping up the honeymoon in Lisbon

Praça do Comercio in Lisbon, Portugal

Yeah, I know, Lisbon again. What can I say, we love that damn city!

Despite living in London my whole life, both of us feel at home in Lisbon. The weather is almost always great, beaches are nearby, the food and drink is delicious (and affordable), and you’ve generally got such a great vibe there.

We’ve booked ourselves in for 3 nights at the Sheraton hotel & spa which we’re really looking forward to! And of course, we’ll be hunting down our favourite Portuguese tarts: Pasteis de Nata.

Stay tuned!

I’ll be creating room tours and reviews of the places we visit when we’re back from honeymoon, so make sure you subscribe to my email list here and follow me on Instagram to follow our honeymoon journey.
