This is an interview I’m seriously excited to share with you guys; Lloyd & Yaya are one of my favourite travel bloggers and they kindly took time out of their (very) busy schedule to share their experiences with you.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

We are Lloyd & Yaya from Hand Luggage Only. We are based in London and are avid travel bloggers that LOVE to experience and explore amazing places around the world. We also have a massive crush on taking photos! 🙂 Before blogging, we both read for our PhD and Masters and we regularly travelled on weekends and between assignments. Our main interest have to be anything dipped in chocolate or indulging in a creme brulee (or eight!)… Haha!

What inspired you to travel?

We both travelled as we grew up and it was something that was always important to both our families. For Lloyd, my first degree was in geography. I was always fascinated with the world around us and it just made sense to see as much of it as humanly possible. For Yaya, it was the want to experience new cultures and to learn. Travel really is our passion.

Tell us about your blog

The guys jumping off a boat!

Hand Luggage Only is our blog that we created to share our tips, advice and photos for all the places that we visit. For us, we love to find quirky new places, yummy restaurants and can sniff a good gelato out from miles away!

We set up our blog to be as helpful as possible. We always want to help our fellow travellers to find new places to explore, it’s so important to us.

How do you afford to travel? Do you blog full-time?

We do blog full time and our blog is now our career. There are a few ways we travel. The first is by booking the trips that catch our eyes! This year, for instance we booked to visit the Arctic Circle, Tokyo and Seoul which we loved so much!

Being in London (with 6 airports and hundreds of airlines) we can tend to find pretty economical flights. This really opens up the world and we just love booking a deal that we see to explore new places that we’d never have thought of.

Other times, we work with brands and a particular country that invites us to experience a place. This is something that we feel so privileged to do. It really is a special experience that we love to share.

How do you like to travel?

Lloyd & Yaya enjoying a meal on a boat

We are very open travellers. We tend to not focus on one type of travel. For instance, we might head over to the Maldives for an indulgent treat, then the next trip will be a weekend enjoying the city lights of Amsterdam. We try to have a grounded view that each and every destination is different and that they should always be embraced.

What has been your favourite destination, and why?

Ohhhh, this is tough!

For Lloyd it has to be the Faroe Islands. They are breathtakingly beautiful and it’s such an idyllic country that is perched between Iceland and Scotland.

For Yaya it has to be Thailand. The stunning and awe-inspiring coastline and friendly people make this one of his favourite countries!

What are the top 3 destinations on your bucket list?

The Azores, Patagonia, Havana (Cuba)

Tell us about your best and worst travel experiences!

Best travel experience

The best travel experience.. wow, there are sooooo many! Okay, it has to be paragliding off the mountains in France to arrive into Switzerland! We paraglided over the border – it was such a surreal way to arrive in a country.

Worst travel experience

We tend to never think about the negatives to much, mainly because there are always silver linings. If we had to choose one, it would be our visit to Palermo… only because it rained solidly for 3 days (I mean, it never stopped)! Our shoes were soaking wet and it just put a little dampener (pun intended) on the trip… especially as we had an excursion to the top of Mount Etna planned 🙁
