Speakers nowadays come in all shapes, sizes and specs to suit all situations. But if you were to ask me which speaker I prefer to take on my travels: it has to be the UE Roll.
Compact, versatile and a great performer, the original UE Roll is a brilliant Bluetooth speaker with a lot of value. Now I’ve got my hands on its successor, the UE Roll 2, and in the video below I go through some of the reasons I love this speaker — especially for travelling.
UE Roll 2: What’s new?
So on the surface, not much has changed from the original speaker. You’re still getting that lovely woven fabric finish on the front along with the large volume buttons (you tune everything else using your phone or tablet). The bungee cord is still there so that you can dangle the speaker from anywhere, and the rear of the speaker remains home to the power and Bluetooth pairing buttons too.
You’ll find a couple of improvements under the hood though.
Ultimate Ears has packed the Roll 2 speaker with 15% more sound along with an improved range of 100 feet — up from 65 feet on the UE Roll. UE also throw in a cute little float you can use to rest the Roll 2 on while you’re in the pool or bath, but that’s about it when it comes to novelties.
Is it worth it?
Most definitely. If you couldn’t tell already, I’m a huge fan of the Roll lineup and can’t recommend this speaker enough.
That said, let me make one thing clear. If you’re able to grab an excellent deal on the older UE Roll, don’t hesitate. The UE Roll 2 is fantastic but you’re not getting many new features and the older generation is still a brilliant option — especially if you’re able to save some cash on the way. Plus, if your budget permits you could always get two and have fun ‘doubling up’ and using them together.
Disclaimer: this article is 100% my opinion and UE has had nothing to do with it. I genuinely love this speaker and recommend it to all friends & family.
